Hello and welcome to the first-ever Cheese Turbulence newsletter! Thank you for signing up, and I hope you're as excited as I am. ๐
I promised to keep things concise and packed, so let's get straight to the point. This newsletter serves first and foremost as an appendix to the last video about the MoErgo Go60. It's been a little over two weeks, and a number of comments have accumulated since. I want to highlight some of them in a segment I'm going to call โThe Appendixโ.
The Appendix
Hold-Tap DOES exist!
In my video I mentioned that you have to use a custom behavior in order to get hold tap to work for clicks. This is actually not the case, as pointed out by @DieyenDualPen and MoErgo themselves; there's a native hold-tap definition you can use.
Different Firmware Types
I'm still wrapping my head around all the different firmware types, but especially for the ZSA Voyager and the MoErgo Go60, I've mentioned the hassle with having to compile it for every keymap change. Well, it turns out that there are firmwares and, by extension, keyboards that are wireless and do have the ability for on-the-fly flashing. As pointed out by @5531guilherme:
- QMK = Via (on-the-fly layout changes)
- ZMK = wireless
- RMK = both
I haven't delved into this deeper as of yet, but it is something I want to check out in more detail later down the road.
Sound Issues
There is something I actually never noticed during my use of the Go60 but have since @jocdiazm pointed it out in the comments. There is a slight pinging sound to the case when you type a bit harder. I actually think it's quite noticeable in the sound demo at the end of the video. I forgot about this again soon after, so I'm going to pass on it as something that bothers me, but it's to keep in mind nonetheless.
Scrolling/Mouse Behavior options
I explained how I use the app โMosโ in order to give smoother scrolling features to the trackpads. As @LordWaterBottle (great name btw) points out, SteamInput might be an alternative option as well. I haven't tried this out myself, but just in case someone else is curious about it.
Similarly, @jaumesinglavalls5486 mentioned an app called โmouseless,โ which looks to be an insane alternative to using a mouse by splitting up your screen real estate into a grid and attacking areas via keyboard combos. I want to give this a more thorough look myself; it might even make it into a video if it's game-changing.
That's it! Thanks for all your comments, and hopefully there's one or two things in here that are of interest to you. ๐ค
Three's Company!
This segment of the newsletter is dedicated to 3 random things that are currently on the top of my mind that I would like to share:
- New Video!
In the last video I teased that the next one will be about the Ultimate Hacking Keyboard 80, and I am currently in the midst of production on it. If you have any questions, just reply to this newsletter, and I'll try to address it in the upcoming video. - New Keyboard?
Vortex recently teased a split keyboard (I believe it's their first?), which looks very enticing. I'd be curious to know if you'd be interested in a full video review on it. - New Website!
As you may remember, I have a new website (which is how you signed up for this mail). But I recently added a new section with written versions of my video reviews. It's mostly identical to the video version, with a few things stripped or sometimes added. I plan to add the older reviews too, over the course of the coming weeks and months (hopefully not years). So, if you prefer to get your terrible puns in written form, now you can. ๐ซก
Bye!
That's it. I hope this wasn't too long and that it was in some way useful or entertaining. Let me know what you think of this format with the ๐/๐ buttons below (which hopefully workโฆ or just reply to this mail if it fails).
Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day and see you soon in the next one, bye! ๐
